Early August my blood starts pumping as the last days of summer fade away. Finally, football is almost here. I'm getting more anxious as I type this because it means we're that much closer to the first kickoff: Nebraska vs. Wyoming (please, hold your laughter).
Growing up in Nebraska, I wasn't really given a choice: root for the Cornhuskers. And for the last 25 years, Nebraska has been my team, regardless of where I've been living (and the heartbreak that often goes along).
I say this because I want Clay to be able to choose his favorite teams. As a result of my job, we move around quite a bit. I don't need my son to go through the episodic existential crisis I face every Saturday in the fall because I forced him into liking a team you can’t even always find on TV.
Hopefully
he'll just become an Alabama fan so he never knows what losing feels like.

Note From Eleanor: Hopefully Clay shows no
interest in football at all.
