omaha is a great place to raise a family

Our new little house on the prairie
We moved to Omaha (now over one year ago) from Savannah, Georgia. It took me months to get over it. The August drought we moved to was a striking contrast to the lushness of the coastline we had left and the restaurants and nightlife as limited in Omaha as varied in Savannah. Our friends were still back in Georgia and Metcalfe Park was a far cry from Forsyth. I have spent most of the past year in Omaha (impatiently) waiting to leave.

But after having Clay, what were always seen as the deficiencies of our new home began to seem more like advantages. While we still miss our friends terribly, suddenly having family nearby was even more important than people to go out with on a Friday night. We find we don’t really need choices beyond our couple favorite restaurants (plus, we aren’t going out much right now anyway). And Metcalfe Park may be small and simple, but it does boast a playground (and a notable lack of homeless men peeing in the bushes). So when we learned last week that Scott might be staying in his job here for longer than expected, we were actually overjoyed. And when it corresponded perfectly with our dream house down the street going up for rent, we happily packed up our things.

I have settled a little bit. We’re certainly not in Savannah anymore. But I have also settled in which is a really wonderful feeling.

The weather still totally sucks here though.

Note From Scott: I think Omaha producing Cursive and Bright Eyes makes the city impervious to criticism of any kind.
