we need a new hobby

the makings of a future Spurs fan
It’s true: opposites attract. Of course, after seven years of being together, you can’t help but pick up some of each other’s characteristics, and we do hold the same values, but when it comes down to interests, Scott and I don’t have too much in common. One orders beer the other wine, we are a hater and lover of college football respectively, and while we both love to read we don’t like the same stories. Our one shared activity has always been watching movies and television. We actually met in our dorm basement during an episode of The Office, and to this day we continue to bond over Parks and Rec. Now we tend to live vicariously through Rotten Tomatoes reviews (our opportunities to go the movie theater are few and far between), counting down the days until the film makes it to Netflix instant stream and discussing the characters of Sherlock in the meantime as though they were our next-door neighbors.

We were halfway through the season of House of Cards until we one night we noticed Clay was being unusually quiet. We both turned to see our baby’s eyes glued to the TV, as fascinated with the outcome of Frank Underwood as we were. Our goal is to get Clay an official bedtime. But until that day comes (see last week’s blog for our issues with that) and we can finally finish the series, we’re stuck brainstorming new ideas for date nights with an impressionable third wheel.

Note From Scott: I’m proud my son is following in my footsteps of watching TV entirely too young.

  1. Oh my gosh. You guys are our TV Partners. We hold our breath for the next Sherlock, watch Parks and Rec like it's going out of style (while drinking margaritas+ beer). We refuse to watch movies that score under a 75% on Rotten Tomatoes (our snobby cut-off score), and we are halfway through House of Cards.

Wait a second, why don't you guys watch The Goodwife? Best Show Ever. I promise.

    1. Ha, just what we need: another amazing show! And I have a 90% cut-off rating; life's just too short to watch bad movies.

  2. Oh, and you really freaked me out with the 7 years being together thing. Are we that old? Holy crap-a-mole.

    1. I know, right? I couldn't believe it when I did the math. Scott's already getting gray hair. We're ancient.
