mom talk

at least baby talk is pretty easy
Foreign language was never my strength. I struggled through high school Spanish, I barely made it through Español 101, and there’s a scratched-up Teach Yourself French cd in my car that I was never actually able to teach myself.

But through the course of nine months of pregnancy and now seven months of motherhood, I have learned to speak the language of mommies (if not fluently) proficiently. I can keep up with the best of them in conversations about where to buy wipes in bulk, and what sleep training method works, and the issues with pureed carrots and nitrates. I can wax poetic about my son’s 360-degree rolling and extol the virtues of cloth diapering. It’s amazing all you can learn when you bring your concerns to ten other mothers experiencing the same!

That being said, I still often feel like a tourist in these groups of moms. I love being a mom, but it's not my first language. And after nine months of pregnancy and seven months of motherhood, I still speak with an accent that’s just a little bit off.

Note From Scott: Fortunately for me, dad talk usually lasts for about five minutes and then it’s on to sports.
