dogs and babies are so easily confused

I've recently noticed I have begun addressing the baby and the dogs with the same voice and expressions. "Good boy, Clay! Come, buddy!" just rolls off the tongue. I find myself snapping my fingers at my son, and (let's face it) it's a matter of time before I mix up Puck and Clay's names. It's not that I equate my child with the pugs, but I am generally convinced neither understands a word I'm saying. Or rather neither one listens to a word I say.

Note From Eleanor: Dogs and husbands also have a lot in common. I've started using that voice when trying to divert Scott's attention from his phone.
