Clay - at one day and two and a half months |
Clay's turning three
months on Sunday, and yet I feel like just yesterday we were taking
him home from the hospital. Our baby now smiles, and talks, and rolls over – a
far cry from the sleepy newborn of three months ago. And yet, I feel like just
yesterday we were figuring out how to put on his diaper. He interacts with the
world around him; he’s even started to acknowledge my presence, welcoming me
home with coos as if to tell me about his day. And yet, I feel like just
yesterday we were giving him his first bath.
Possibly the sped up time just has to do with my getting older and my perception of time changing. But maybe I haven't really taken the time to slow down. Celebrating three months is exciting (we made it this far!), but it also makes me feel a little bit guilty – could I have been there for more smiles, been involved with more baths? As Clay is constantly teaching me, though, life is too short and time moves too quickly to be pondering the coulda, woulda, shouldas.

Note From Eleanor: I’m with Clay almost 24/7, and I still
can’t get enough grins and bathtimes.
You brought a full-grown man to tears.... in the middle of a coffee shop.
ReplyDeleteThanks for that.
