sick days are sickening

life goes on
At around 10:00 on Tuesday evening I became aware that the contents of my stomach were hosting an internal mutiny. Throwing up is always a fairly miserable existence, but it used to at least come with some degree of benefits: a pause from work, homemade soup, pity from my wife.

With the addition of the baby, though, now I spent my sick day quarantined in the guest bedroom, avoided like the plague by Eleanor (who was terrified I would infect Clay) and altogether feeling completely useless. And it was almost disconcerting how well Eleanor picked up the slack.

Breaks are nice, but having something taken away (even for such a short amount of time) brings a certain gravitas to the situation. This day is all that we are promised – better make the most of it.
